Supporting vulnerable residents in private sector housing

Hackney Council's Public Health and Private Sector Housing teams are leading on a project looking to improve the support they offer to vulnerable tenants in Hackney's Private Rented Sector (PRS). The council is aware that housing in Hackney is changing, and that vulnerable residents who are not eligible for social housing or don’t meet the priority criteria have no option but to live in the PRS.

A key part of this project is to engage with services who ‘walk through doors’ and visit vulnerable PRS tenants in their homes, and the council is developing a network of agencies who conduct home visits, looking at how we share information between services about tenants health and wellbeing and housing conditions, and offer effective signposting to tenants to local services.

The network involves monthly workshops and a programme of free training. Upcoming workshops are:

January 24th 2pm – 4pm @ Hackney Town Hall: welfare reform and Universal Credit
February 19th and 20th / February 26th and 27th: two day Mental Health First Aid training

For more information or to join the network, please contact
